Overnight at Shimba Hills Rainforest

This small-group tour allows for plenty of personal attention from the guide, who will help to spot animals, birds, and other features throughout the day. Watch for some of the reserve's extraordinary wildlife in the Shimba Hills’ grassland and forest; the park is especially known for sightings of the endangered sable antelope, which fight off predators using long, scimitar -shaped horns. Bird watchers can tick off species on their “life lists,” as 111 bird species have been recorded in Shimba Hills, including 22 coastal endemics such as the ostrich eagle, African hawk, and honey guide. Pause for lunch at Shimba Hills Lodge, then (weather permitting), you have the option to take a second walk through the bush around the lodge or simply enjoy the view from the lodge.

Day 1: Shimba Rain Forest Lodge (Meal Plan: Fullboard)

You will be picked from your hotel early in the morning at 07:00, and then be driven for about forty -five minutes to reach this cool and lush reserve. You will start searching for the animals including elephant, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, the rare Sable antelope tha t are only found here in the whole of East Africa and maybe the leopard. All these plus colourful birds are seen in this year through green Rainforest of Shimba hills National Reserve.

Thereafter you will tour the Sheldrick Falls on the slopes of the hill s before lunchtime where you would watch water splashing from top a cliff 30 metres high forming a natural pool to cause casual sportswear. It is very important to put into consideration before disembarking from the vehicle to go down the hill 45 minutes gentle walk that this is a fitness exercise and it’s recommended for the physically fit people.

Lunch will be at the Shimba lodge Rain Forest Lodge and it will be served in a restaurant -overlooking waterhole. The lodge is the only tree hotel at the coast and it has a stunning view from its base of rainforest. After lunch you will have another game drive to nature walk zone. This is a guided tour and at times, you come close to the wild game a thrill for your Kenyan Safari. Sit around a born fire as the res ident naturist takes you through the history of the lodge, park and its inhabitants. The sun is now preparing to set and you watch the beautiful rays which lift up the sky as it goes down the horizon. On a clear day, you can see the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania.

Drive back to the lodge and get refreshed as you wait to have a sumptuous dinner in the main restaurant. Our restaurant is open for drinks and you have the night at leisure then dinner and overnight in the lodge.

Day 2: Transfer back to the hotel

The day starts with an early morning game drive where you would be likely to see the elephant, buffaloes and other animals including elusive leopard reverting back to the lodge for breakfast. This will be followed by another game drive in the park enroute to the beach resort arriving in mid-morning.
