At a glance

Tsavo East National Park is the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the large mammals: vast herds of dust-red elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions, leopards, pods of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudus, gerenuks, and prolific birdlife featuring 500 recorded species.

The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Visitors can also meet the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture.
