TAS 13: 5 DAYS MOUNT KENYA CLIMBING IN SIRIMON OUT CHOGORIA OR IN CHOGORIA OUT SIRIMON (PEAK EXPLORATION) (Departs daily)


DAY 1. 1950 TO 3300 M. 950 TO 3300M

Start by transport from Nanyuki to Sirimon Park gate 2635m.

An acclimatization walk starts at the gate to Old Moses camp. The important 9km will lead you through our Equatorial rainforest with chances to see animals like black and white Columbus monkeys, buffaloes, elephants and varieties of birds.

The hiking may take 3 - 3 ½ hours although slow pace is strongly advised. Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp.

DAY 2. 3300 TO 4228M.

Morning meals followed by 14 ½ km trekking.

Shoot early enough to cover 7 hours walking through our undisturbed moorland with combination of Special Mountain plant that never grows below 3500m. High chances to be entertained by Rock Hyrax, the only high altitude surviving animal that is believed to be elephant cousin.

Lunch enroute, dinner and overnight at Shiptons.

DAY 3. 4228 TO 4790 M. 4228 TO 4970M

Anti-clockwise semi – circuit to Austrian hut may take 5 hours always with peak views in front of you. Starting with steep climbing right from Shiptons the trail leads you to Husberg Col. 4590m.

Lunch at Hut Turn. Dinner and overnight at Austrian hut.

DAY 4. 4790 TO 4985M POINT LENANA. TO 4985M POINT LENANA

Continental breakfast (tea & biscuits) and set for Point Lenana around 5 am so as to be at the top by 6 0'clock with chances to see the sunrise and Kilimanjaro if the weather allows.

After Photos descend back to Austrian hut for the real breakfast and proceed down to Chogoria via the most beautiful valley around Mt. Kenya (George's valley).

Lunch at Chogoria Readhead. Dinner and overnight at Chogoria gate.

DAY 5. 2950 TO 1950 M. 0M TO 1950M

After breakfast proceed down to Chogoria. 15-km leisure walk through our Bamboo Zone leads you to half way where you connect transport for transfer back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch.

Anorak, Fleece, Walking Boots, Training Shoes, Waterproof Jacket, Shirts, Trousers, Skirts, Socks, Gloves, Sun Hat, Balaclava/Woolen Hat, Gaiters, Thermal, Towel, Toiletries, Toilet paper, Sun Glasses, Snow Goggles, Mineral Water, Walking Pole, Crampons, Torch/Flash Light, Sun cream/Sun Block, Lip Salve, Whistle, Penknife, Day Pack, Camera, Films emergency foil blanket, Four season sleeping bags, Water Purification Kit and First Aid Kit.

A WORD OF WARNING.

No one is suffering from respiratory infections, colds, cough or a temperature should go higher than 9000 feet. Children under 10 years of age are not allowed higher than this. Many climbers get high altitude sickness which is quite normal although uncomfortable.  

Please you are advised for your enjoyment and comfort to carry the following items.

All weather firm shoes, shorts to use during the day, trouser for use in the evenings with long sleeved shirt, sweater  or jacket, hat, swimming costume, sunglass, camera, film, binocular, sun protection cream and insect repellent spray or cream and sleeping bags which are available for hire for the whole safari per bag at US$ 30.00 plus a refundable of US$ 70.0 after the safari.
