KATONGA GAME RESERVE
The
208sq km (80sq miles) Katonga Game Reservetakes its name
from the Katonga River which flows immediately to its south.
The Reserve is traversed by numerous tributaries of the
Katonga. With plentiful water, there is diverse flora and
fauna. Grassland species such as Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Bohor
Reedbuck, Buffalo , Hippo and Warthog are found, and the
reserve straddles the traditional elephant range which
runs north to south through Uganda . Eland, Roan Antelope
and Zebra used to occur but have mostly disappeared as
illegal cattle grazing increased over the past decade.
The reserve is located 190km (118 miles) west of Kampala
on the Kampala – Kasese railway. People wishing to visit
this reserve should first make enquiries at the Game Department,
Entebbe.
