BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST GORILLA
SANCTUARY
This sanctuary
is 297sq km (115 miles) of lowland rain forest and was
gazetted to protect the Lowland Gorilla(Gorilla gorilla
graueri) found there. A 1979 survey found six gorilla families
with about 115 members, but noted that the population appeared
to be declining. Game Wardens are sometimesavailable to
take visitors to seek gorillas in their habitat, but it
is advisable to check with the Game Department at Entebbe
. Accommodation is available at the White Horse Inn in
nearby Kabale. The sanctuary includes part of the Impenetrable
Kayonza Forest.
