Our hotel provides every modern convenience to our guests. Promising an unforgettable experience of professional service, comfort and unmatched elegance within a decidedly romantic and enchanting Swahili feel through out our 11 rooms and suites

Our Location

Stone Town, historically named after the coral stone buildings of the 19th Century , is the main town on the island of Zanzibar. What originally started as a main fishing village now houses over 16000 people with over 1700 recorded buildings and boasts a thriving tourism industry. Tall houses and narrow alleyways are decorated with brass studded wooden doors and balconies carved by Indian craftsmen, bringing the Middle Eastern influence to the architecture. The streets are filled with aromas of spices, perfumes and local hand crafted delights. Here, you are greeted with warm Swahili smiles and the echoes of ‘Jambo’ through the streets.

Kisiwa house is conveniently located on Kenyatta Street, a quiet side street of Baghani, only 0.6km from the Port and 1.5km from the Kisauni Airport. It is within walking distance to Stone Town beach where you can board a Dhow boat for one of the many tours around the island or simply sit on the sand and indulge in the bright red and purple African Sunsets for which the west coast is so well known. For the more adventurous guest, taxis can be arranged to take you exploring other parts of the island.

Weather & Climate

Zanzibar is blessed with a tropical climate boasting sunshine all year round. Hot days are cooled by soft sea breezes and the lapping waves of the Indian Ocean on pristine, white sands. When summer peaks in December through January, guests can indulge in glorious sun soaked afternoons whilst winter cools the air slightly and brings a gentler heat during June. Annual temperatures range from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. The rainy seasons spread themselves across April and May and October and November, but these months are still a favourable time to travel. Located six degrees south of the Equator, the island is comfortably humid, making dusk and dawn ideal times to stroll along the beach and admire the breath taking views around you.

Community

Kisiwa House is passionate about preserving the culture and traditions of Zanzibar, our home. When exploring the wooden staircases, the intricately carved front door and stone walls of the house, they tell the 176 year old history that has been preserved through generations. We are focused on conserving the precious natural resources of the island by reducing and recycling our bi products and help introduce new methods to lead the way forward for environmentally friendly hotels in Zanzibar. Kisiwa House is committed and dedicated to giving back to our local community by supporting women through employment. Nearly half the work force of Kisiwa House staff are women, some of which hold decision making positions. We also support businesses by sourcing 95% of our produce locally.
